Cute Waiter, How To Approach?

There is a small, family owned Asian restaurant that I frequent, that has a really cute waiter around my age. I don't want to be a creeper and mack on him while he is working, but I'd like to get to know him and maybe be friends. Problem is, he is polite, but isn't overly social in making conversation (Asian demeanor) and pretty much just politely takes our orders. How can I break the ice and get to know him?
